Big Band Blues

16Oct

Well, “blues” as in the music style not the mood! We had our first practice of the new Big Band today, and it was really good fun. We even have our first gig, Wednesday the 25th of October (a week and 2 days) at the Registry. The dress code is “Gangster”, so black clothes with white ties and any kind of Blues Brothers’ hat etc! So I’ll have to ask Mum and Dad to bring my black shirt, white tie and Blues Brothers’ hat into work so that I can pick them up.

My first full day of lectures today. Our first lecture at 9 this morning was “Physical Layer Technology”, and we basically learnt about binary and hex. I was very suprised that Martin Cripps didn’t mention his accident oustide Uni House! Shortly following that was “Engineering Analysis”, learning about rearranging formulas and partial fractions, all at least A-level stuff if not GCSE stuff! That was followed by a Lab in the same subject, just doing questions on a computer on the work that we did in the lecture. After that I could finally go and get some lunch.

A bacon part-baked baguette, mmm nice!

As soon as I’d eaten that though, I had to head over to Anglesea for a Computing Pratical in “Introduction to Computing”. We were given brief and just told to follow it. It was really confusing and none of us had a clue where to start! One of the lecturers there told me off for asking too many questions, he said we shouldn’t ask questions until the 2nd year! But I think he was joking. I hope!

After that we had three more lectures, well two “tutorials” and one lecture. Not tremendously fun!

I have searched my room high and low for the Arcsoft software disc, and can’t find it anywhere. So anyone with that software? Please?!
