Sleeping Monkey Presents...
The Passion of the Christ
Nov 30 2006Is a really powerful film. I’m glad I didn’t watch it on my own.
Last nite, Clare Ruth, Dan and I watched it round Dan’s flat. It wasn’t as gruesome or horrific as I thought it would be, and it’s not the horror that gets me. It’s the fact that He went through all that pain and torture for me. That I find challenging; would I lay down my life to save those close to me, let alone those who don’t even deserve it? Yet it wasn’t Jesus who was laying down his life, it was God who was laying down His son’s life… Would I lay down my son’s blameless life for the lives of undeserving others? The answer would probably have to be no. What would he think of me if I did? Even Jesus has doubts – “My God, why have you forsaken me?”. Yet throughout the whole ordeal Jesus was saying again and again “Forgive them, Father” – how?! Forgiveness is hard enough when its a small issue, let alone when its forgiving people who are killing your son…
As I said, powerful movie. Glad I had the company of Dan and Clare Ruth though, making light of things and joking is probably our (well, mine and Dan’s anyway) way of coping with things like that…
