Bored at Work

24Jan

Well I know it’s only been an hour and that I’m a third of the way through, but it *is* boring! But it’ll pass soon…

So what have I done of any significance since I last posted?

Not much, to be honest. I went with Sarah to B&Q a few days ago (Saturday, I think it was) to give her a hand getting some wood she needed for her course. We walked to Fratton, and ended up walking back with disposable masks, polyfiller, and two massive pieces of wood, 6mm MDF and 3mm hardboard. I was carrying the wood and by the time we got back to Bateson my hands hurt :( But oh well! Saved Sarah having to do it. I just hope it was worth it and that her cube turns out ok!!

We had our final lab this morning, *finally* managed to get the receiving code for the Manchester II encoding to work correctly! After a lot of pushing in the right direction from Martin, we discovered all we had to do was change the number 1000 to the number 30H, which it turned out Martin knew that was our problem 2 weeks ago and he never told us!! He just wanted us to work it out for ourselves… But we got lights lighting up on one micro when switches are pressed on the other micro, so I’m happy.

My poster arrived today, yay! Big print of a beautiful sunset on my wall.

And…. my camera came on Monday!! So I now have a lovely Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W30 to play with :) One annoying thing, it doesn’t upload photos into folders dated with the day they were taken, but with the day they were uploaded, but I’m sure I’ll live with that. It has a clever piece of software that displays pictures on a calendar type thingy.

Talking of technology, earlier this week I finished watching the Apple Keynote Address about the iPhone - it’s impressive! Apple don’t just do things by halves, do they? I mean, it’s not as if the phone can do any more than your average phone, it’s just the technology behind it, the interface, and the small things that make it what it is that I like. I wish it was out in the UK already, but I know it’s going to cost a lot ($499 in America) and it’ll probably only be on the Orange network.

Ineke’s down for a good number of days now :) so that’s made both of us happy! She’s currently shopping in Commercial Road while I “work”. I hope she’s having a good time!! It’s chilly out, though I hear it’s been snowing in Oxford and other places around the country, so I’m hoping it’ll snow down here maybe! You never know!

This is turning into one long blog, but I have nothing better to do at work. I’ve been requisitioned (if that’s the right word) to do the UOP Big Band website, as you can see it’s in need of a bit of work. I like this photo, so I’m maybe thinking of some way of incorporating that into the new design, while at the same time creating a content management system so that it becomes a lot easier to update.

I want to keep writing this blog because it’s something to do at work. Maybe I should do some revision for my exam on Friday! Can anyone tell me the names and sizes of the parts of an ITU/T X-25 (HDLC) packet?!

It should be diy.com not diy.co.uk - how’s that for a sad dad!
