Sleeping Monkey Presents...
Party in the Square Security
May 23 2007Got an e-mail from James Goodship detailing rotas, breaks, and a map of Guildhall Square and positioning of events and things during the weekend yesterday. Turns out I’ll be on shift from 9am to 8pm with 45 minutes break during the day, both days. Then I’ll be manning the stage from 1am to 5am Sunday morning as well, so it’s going to be a very busy weekend, and by the end of it I know I’m going to be tired. Luckily we don’t have an exam until Tuesday, though it means no revision over the weekend because of all that’s happening. Prayer for the weekend would be good.
Talking of exams, our lecturer posted online the solutions to the paper that Dan and I sat yesterday, which was unusual! Never had solutions a day after the exam. Obviously we don’t get marks yet, but we were able to look over the paper and compare them to what we wrote in the exam.
It was exam in the C Programming language. The syntax is very similar to PHP (a language you might say I’m fairly fluent in), and I did not find it that difficult a language to learn, so the exam proved fairly straightforward. As with all programming languages, there is always more than one way of doing the same thing, so though my answers may not be exactly word for word what the solutions say, hopefully they still end up with the same result.
Dan and I have been doing revision today, my pin board is covered with notes and I still don’t have enough room for it all! See the photo below for an indication of what it’s like! And that’s just the majority of it, probably about 30% left to go up… This unit is very complicated, involving memorising more than 20 equations to do with Optical Fibre, Satellites, etc. Complicated stuff.

I’ve got into the habit recently of regularly reading a couple of Web Designer’s blogs, Mezzoblue, 456 Berea Street, Veerle’s Blog and sometimes Simple Bits. They post some really really interesting and useful articles – my only regret is that they don’t post enough!
Veerle has to be one of the most talented designer’s I have ever come across. Her blog design, for a start, is one of the most well-designed sites I have ever seen, it’s unique and excellent, never seen anything like it. She’s recently come up with a new identity for her Web/Graphic Design business, Duoh!, which is currently being redesigned, and it looks promising! I was looking at some business cards she’s designed to match the new identity, and it inspired me to design some of my own… but I don’t know anywhere to get good quality business cards without paying an absolute fortune. Any ideas, anyone?

I do already have business cards, but I meant ones that I had designed myself, rather than using a pre-defined online template.
Dan

Ben
My thoughts exactly… and it’s growing every day…
