Two Types of Pirates

31May

Last night I saw Pirates of the Carribean: At World’s End for the second time, and today Dan and I watched a most of Pirates of Silicon Valley, a film about the history of Apple and Microsoft.

I saw At World’s End on Sunday night with Dan and Kita, and then again last night with Ruth, JamesGood film. I recommend it! and Sam. It’s much better than the second film - but that isn’t hard. It doesn’t come anywhere near the first film, but then that would be very difficult. If you do go and see it, be sure to stay until after the credits, so many people left, yet there’s quite a nice little scene at the end. Good film. I recommend it!

Today Dan and I watched the Silicon Valley film. I find the history of the two companies very interesting. Both companies presented their first ideas to major corporations (Microsoft to IBM and Apple to HP) and both were rejected… silly mistakes by both! Though I’ve also been reading the History of Apple Inc. on Wikipedia, and there are a couple of things that don’t tie up with the film. But I’d be more inclined to believe the film, as the directors conferred with Jobs and Wozniak when filming it. I learnt something quite interesting today:

Why Apple? At the time, the company to beat was Atari, and Apple Computer came before Atari alphabetically and thus also in the phone book.

You learn something new every day.
