A surprise weekend

13Oct

This weekend turned out to be more eventful than planned. Ruth had arranged to come up for the weekend, so she arrived Friday evening and we had a relaxing evening pretty much like old times. Saturday, though, a bunch of people from King’s drove up here in a minibus to attend some Jesus Culture conference at a church in Reading, so I lent them the use of our car park to save them having to pay to park at the Oracle or some such expensive place. It was really good to see friends from King’s again, like having a little bit of Portsmouth around.

They stayed all day, but for most of the day were involved in the Jesus Culture events. Ruth and I met them for lunch, and again for dinner. Over dinner I had the random idea that I could travel back down with them in the minibus, and go to King’s (and the free student meal that was being put on!) the next day. As a bonus, Annie wouldn’t know I would be in Portsmouth, so I could meet her at the train when she got back from visiting her friend in Exeter on Sunday afternoon. So that’s what I did! I stayed the night at Sarah, Sarah and Paul’s house (Paul was away so I nabbed his bed), then went to King’s with them in the morning, had the student lunch, and toddled off to meet Annie from the station. It was so cool to be standing on the station as she got of the train, and to watch her face when she realised I was there.

Sunday evening consisted of King’s again, followed by a DVD night at the church. Unfortunately I had to get up at 6am the next day in order to catch a train to Fareham from where Chris could bring me into work, but that didn’t stop me having an awesome weekend.

I love it in Portsmouth. It really is my home…
